SPENCER J. HARDY AIRPORT

  • Prior to the 1950’s, the Howell airport was originally located where Northwest is located today.

  • In 1960, the county purchased the airport from the city of howell for just one dollar.

  • The old terminal building was built in the mid 1960’s.

  • The first commercial jet aircraft landed at the Howell’s airport in 1976.

  • In 1988 the runway was lengthened from 3000 feet to 4300 feet.

  • An Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS) was installed in 1993.

  • In 1994 the airport went under construction lengthening the runway to 5000 feet and the building of a new terminal.

  • Currently the airport has over 150 aircraft and over 40,000 takeoff and landing every year.
