Prior to the 1950’s, the Howell airport was originally located where Northwest is located today.

In 1960, the county purchased the airport from the city of howell for just one dollar.

The old terminal building was built in the mid 1960’s.

The first commercial jet aircraft landed at the Howell’s airport in 1976.

In 1988 the runway was lengthened from 3000 feet to 4300 feet.

An Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS) was installed in 1993.

In 1994 the airport went under construction lengthening the runway to 5000 feet and the building of a new terminal.

Currently the airport has over 150 aircraft and over 40,000 takeoff and landing every year.
